The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. -Marcel Proust

I am a jack of all trades and a master of none. Well, maybe a master of one. Shell hunting. If there was an olympics of treasure hunting on a sandy beach, I just might be a medalist. Go ahead, laugh at that idea; there is actually a skill to it, or a talent, or an affinity, and I am proud to say that I have it. I have honed that skill with hundreds of hours spent outdoors, walking slowly and methodically with the focus of a singular goal.

Hunting for treasure along the water’s edge doesn’t have to be just shells though. Wherever there is water, there are the remnants of life, whether it be an ocean, a lake, a stream or a river. I love shells because each one used to hold a living thing inside of it and I can’t help but see the infinite design of such a perfect creature. Yet, there is beauty and purpose in every artifact that sparks our curiosity. A stick in the shape of a letter or a rock that sparkles like diamonds. I think this is what draws us humans to be near water, even when that water is not drinkable and would not support our survival. It is about what feeds our spirits and connects us to things beyond our imagination.

So, I pick up some small gift every time I go out into nature. A sand dollar, a heart-shaped rock, an unusual piece of wood, a vibrantly colored leaf. I don’t expect them to last, although some have become part of my home, but they represent so much in the time I have them in my possession. They are memories. Pieces of peacefulness. And I treasure them as only something acquired in love can be treasured.

    About Me.

I have many passions, but two of my favorite are getting outside every day and writing. Both provide me with an incredible sense of peace, good health and the ability to not take myself too seriously. Here, I get to combine them and share the joy I feel from exploring Mother Nature and creating stories.

      Never Miss a Post!

I am addicted to getting outdoors. Luckily, not all addictions require treatment.

I like to encourage people, inspire them, and share my passion for getting outside every day.
