Silence is a true friend who never betrays. - Confucious

I want to share an article about silence. The article discusses the science behind what we, as humans, understand about the way silence makes us feel. The ideas mentioned should be obvious, but whenever science is applied, a non-tangible concept suddenly gains credibility, so take a moment to visit the link below to read the piece from Upliftconnect.com.
So what does this have to do with this blog? The obvious answer is that nature embodies the absence of everyday sounds, but it is more than that. Nature is never completely silent, but rather, quiet. Leaves crunching underfoot, birds singing, waves crashing, rain falling...all of it has sound, but none of it is noise. Noise is an interruption of sincere thoughts, of focus, of clarity. Noise is the voices in our head that tell us we are ugly, or stupid. Noise is the din of overhead electrical wires that span our yards. Noise is industry and cars and words that are spoken out of anything other than love.
I have allowed that type noise to become part of my conscious over the last few months. This is disappointing because I have always considered myself adept at clearing the noise, or not giving it admission inside my head in the first place. I would like to blame life, busy, challenging life for this shift, yet it is most definitely me. I have not been following my own mantra to get outside more. I have been living inside noisy walls and a noisy head far too much lately. So, now that I admit it and understand what steps I should take to make it better, the rest is simple. Quiet the noise. No excuses or "laters." Get outside.
